What can I do for you?

School does not teach us how to present ourselves on paper and in interviews to gain acceptance to medical school. I am sure that you know that getting into medical school is very competitive. I work with outstanding students applying to medical school to help them utilize and present their strengths in the medical school application process. I can counsel you on what it takes academically and non-academically to be a well-qualified applicant to medical school.

If you do not know yourself then it is hard for those evaluating you to know you and see you as a potential physician. Working together I will help you to define your path to your career choice; not merely to “look good” to the admissions committee but to help you know “who you are”.

It takes time to do a first class job. The time to start is when you decide that becoming a doctor is your goal. I can make the biggest difference for you if you consult me early in your academic career. If becoming a doctor is your dream then you must make the application process a high priority. You are investing in the rest of your life.

Entering medical school next year: I will work with you personally now. It takes time to prepare a first class application.

Entering medical school in later years: I will begin working with applicants a year and a half before entering medical school. I am available to consult concerning extracurricular choices and getting better marks at any time. I have had particular success with non-traditional applicants and those who were rejected the first time they applied.

How does coaching work?

The process will include:

  1. Our first complimentary conversation will involve evaluating your application credentials.
  2. At the second meeting the real work begins. This will include:
    1. Timing;
    2. Choice of medical school;
    3. Tips on writing your personal statement and short answers with an in-depth review of content and style.( Do they convey who you are?);
    4. Choosing and contacting your referees;
    5. Constructing your CV or activities list; and
    6. Preparing for the CasPer (McMaster Applicants only).
    7. We will chat about when you realized you wanted to become a physician, how you approach that goal and how you see yourself practicing medicine. Each person has their unique needs beyond the application process that may include managing stress, time management etc. I will help you develop the skills.
  3. Editing your writing and reviewing your activities list.
  4. As soon as you have an interview opportunity I will start to prepare you for the type of interview that you will experience (MMI or traditional interview). This will include discussion of what to expect, how to approach to questions and difficult situations, mock interviews, developing key skills, deportment and appearance. The aim is to prepare you and give you confidence to do your best.
